The stuff El-P and Aes talk about at 9:16-11:40 about is such a relevant issue to this day. +Premoguys @27:15
this is the most influential thing I've ever seen in my life
i got cassettes from those Jest and Vast sessions..Amazing..Spent much time in one of these apts, bugged to see it in a Doc..a Foreign one no less
What was the name of it
This documentary just made the entire Def Jux roster that was exhibited here seem about 10X more awesome to me. They all show humility and humble spirits. It makes the amazing lyricism EL-P, Vast Aire, and Aesop Rock display all the more better. I just sit and laugh at people who say Hip Hop is dead. It's like they're stranded in a desert with no water in sight, while true heads chill at the oasis all day.
Ace looks fucked up when El-P is ranting at 9:50. He's so distant, hope it's just some herb. Love you AR.
on balance this is my favourite record label ever...I dont know its weird to say it when you think about everything that is out there but I have never been so deeply mentally affected by a type of music as I have the special material Def Jux put out when I was just learning about shit in my teens. Bless them all and bless vordul mega who is rumoured to be homeless
goddamn that freestyle session was sick af. I remember seeing this video in early 2000s haven't seen it in years! ahhh memories
so glad this is up online again in full. i remember watching this like 7 years ago and it was a bitch to find and i ended up losing my copy. thank youtube
The stuff El-P and Aes talk about at 9:16-11:40 about is such a relevant issue to this day. Just hearing these rappers from humble beginnings understand this issue this well already in a 2002 documentary made me uneasy. "You know a lot of parents will probably think well, we don't really have to bust our ass to really get into the head of our child, we don't really have to address what's going on with this kid, we don't even really have to know what's going on with this kid, because, he's sleeping well at night." That hit deep.
Thanx for the upload!!!!
El-P knows what the real threat to our existence is. It's a good enough reason to start your own record label.
well that c rayz walz freestyle escalated quickly
I wanna see kool ad and Aesop on a track. If they've already done that let me know
El-P's beats were/are so ahead of their time. He and Aphex Twin sort of did "DubStep" earlier and better than the genre itself.
I am so happy this exists
is that DJ abilities at 09:13?
Yes
I love watching Aesop freestyle... he’s so good
vast aire sounds so faded all the time
He talks like he's rapping
So true. It sounds pretty dope though
He was born to rap with a voice like that
@@nicnotnick No he raps how he talks. Lol...
I wonder if he squashed beef with El.
Aesop and EL-P are true hip hop gods!
the greatest of lyricism with truth behind it all
I dont listen to music like this anymore but this fire. they're really lyracist.
“I live on the second floor, Luka moved..” that bar says a lot and is hard af!
0:54 me bringing shorty back to my apartment
We need a well written movie about Minneapolis hiphop. Eyedea slug Aesop rock all that
This is exactly what I was just thinking bro...hell yeah they need to make a movie about these guys that truly transcended their own selves.
Love how they using a dreamcast as a CD player
This is what I wanna live like.
El-p has the real life, he lives off being a rapper
and still has his soul!
11:59 for Dreamcast sounds/mixing
what game are they playing
Alot of menue sounds I htink maybe they like a cd loaded in while they restart the track and let it play out
Isn't Bazooka Tooth Aesop Rock's thing? I'm confused
Jazzy Goddess Eventually yes. It was still just a concept in Aesop's mind at this point. The documentary makers grabbed the title from that freestyle. Part of what makes this so great
When the rawest get interrupted by an advertisement for
1 800 FLOWERS...
That’s Definitive Juxtaposition
El-p is a legend that built def jux and basically underground hip hop if you don't think el-p is dope you don't know hip hop.
He did not build underground hip hop what in the fuck are you talking about. EL put in his work however if we let you tell it he was sent to the underworld by Grandmaster Caz to start a new scene.
King Author ... 😂😂😂
2002 , they were already saying young guys in Hip hop talk about thngs they don't know...Gucci , cars , hotties...And we still into it , even worst.
